Symbolism on the Saint Benedict Medal

Saint Benedict medal represents a prayer on the part of the user to invoke God's blessing and protection through the intercession of St. Benedict. The medals are used in many ways, but always as a protection against evil. 

The Front:
Features Saint Benedict holding a cross and his rules of monasteries. Behind him a cup with “Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti” which means “The cross of Holy Father Benedict” to the left. To the right is a Dove. These are a symbol of the story of angry monks who attempted to poison Benedict. When he made the sign of the cross over the poison cup it shattered, and a dove flew off with poisoned bread.

Around Benedict reads “Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur!” which translates to "May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death" - Saint Benedict is the Patron Saint of a Happy Death.

A Cross in the center inscribed Vertically with “CSSML” and Horizontally “NDSMD” These are symbols for the phrase that translates to “May the holy cross be my light! May the dragon never be my guide”

Around the Cross there are the letters “CSPB” for “Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti” which means “The cross of Holy Father Benedict”

Encircled around the edge of the Medal has "VRSNSMV - SMQLIVB" for "Vade Retro Satana, Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana—Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas" which means "Begone Satan, Never Tempt me with your vanities, What you offer me is Evil, Drink the poison yourself!".

And the Top is "Pax" which means "Peace".
